The GR6b-OVP is a compact AC rectifier-regulator usuable for Rotax-, Hirth- and Solo aircraft engines with lead and LiFePO4 batteries. It has been designed to provide a stable power supply minimizing interferences on the aircraft main electrical bus. It has a builtin overvoltage monitoring device (OVP) that inhibits ignition of the thyristors if the battery voltage exceeds 15V.
Functional features:
When the main switch is turned on the charge control LED lights up. It turns off if the generator delivers power. Charge voltage is contolled according to voltage at thin red wire. If the battery voltage (yellow wire) exceeds 15 V charging is inhibited and the LED lights up. Charging resumes automatically if the battery voltage drops below approx. 14V. On top of the GR6b there are 2 small potentiometers to adjust the charge voltage and the OVP voltage. The OVP potentiometer is marked red. Do check if the preset values are compatible with your battery!
Installation:
The GR6b is mounted using 2x M5 screws. It should be installed in a cool location and to optimise cooling the heat sink ribs should be mounted vertically. The recommended GR6b wiring schematic can be seen below. All wires are connected via a 6 pole Faston connector. A good ground connection is achieved by removing the anodization around one of the M5 screw and attaching a suitable ring terminal
