The OVP (Over-Voltage-Protection) is a resettable overvoltage fuse. It is inserted between the rectifier-regulator and the battery to protect the battery from overcharging in case of a failure of the regulator. The fuse voltage is adjusted to 15,2 V to protect LiFePO4 batteries.
Functional description:
Inside the OVP is a relay that breaks the charge current if the battery voltage exceeds the fuse voltage. If the battery voltage drops below approx. 12V the relay will fall back and the battery will be charged again. A lamp (max. 0,1A) or a LED may be connected to check if the OVP has tripped. Also a reset key may be connected to reset the OVP in case of an unintentional trip.
Installation:
The OVP should be located as close as possible to the battery. Disconnect the charge wire from the battery and connect it to the yellow wire coming out of the OVP. The blue wire shall be connected to minus of the battery, the red wire to plus. Connect the optional reset key to blade terminals 3 and 4. Terminals 1 and 2 are provided to connect a lamp (1) or LED (2) (see schematic). If there is a charge control already this can be used in most cases.
